Nike, no stranger to gaming culture, will introduce a new gaming-inspired Blazer Mid ‘77 Vintage sneaker this fall. With a white, bright crimson, and black color scheme, the new shoe will feature a digitalized Swoosh logo, a gradient sole and a removable backtab with a patchable surface.
The sneaker will also have a white upper that glows in the dark, while the lower heel will read, “have a good game.” This isn’t the first time Nike has referenced gaming. Last year, the brand introduced a Nintendo 64-themed Air Max 97 that paid homage to the two 90s icons. The Air Max 97 featured green, blue, red, and yellow accents throughout the upper, midsole, and outsole, which were reminiscent of the controller’s buttons and the N64 logo.
The brand has also had numerous official Sony Playstation collaborations, including the PlayStation x PG 2, which honored Oklahoma City Thunder’s Paul George. With a mesh and leather upper in black and navy blue, a wraparound overlay with Playstation controller button graphic prints, and logos on the tongue that lit up, the sneaker was launched in 2018.
Nike also released the PG 2.5 x PlayStation sneakers, which were inspired by the original PlayStation console. A light grey shoe, the PG 2.5 x PlayStation featured a multicolor PS logo on the left shoe’s tongue, which lit up when you pressed it. On the right side, it had a Paul George PG logo that also lit up by pressing a PS power button on the inside of the tongue. In addition, the shiny patent leather on the midsole referenced Sony’s DualShock controller with small prints of the x, square, circle and triangle buttons.
Although the “Have a Good Game” Blazer Mid ‘77 Vintage doesn’t yet have a name, it is expected to be released this fall at select retailers and Nike.com. Both the PlayStation x PG 2 and the PG 2.5 x PlayStation sneakers sold out almost immediately, therefore, if you’re hoping to get a jump on the new gaming model, keep your eyes peeled for updates from Nike.
