Nier Replicant was never a bad game, but it was certainly forgotten for a while. With the success of Nier Automata, many players took an interest in the older game. That was partially responsible for the success of Nier Replicant’s current version. The remake of the title has resonated with many who hadn’t played the game earlier.

Nier Replicant is a fantastic action JRPG. The game is filled with philosophical debates and constantly plays around with stereotypes of its own genre. The newest version had a noticeable visual upgrade, but it was also released for PC. That means that modders eventually put their hands on it.

Updated November 30, 2021 by Ryan Bamsey: While the Nier modding community has mostly focused on creating new ways to make the game look absolutely gorgeous, there are a few new exciting developments and we’ve updated this list to reflect them.

12 Petra’s PlayStation Button Replacer

Most PC games have an Xbox controller layout. Although it makes sense, many players use a DualShock or even a DualSense to play their games. Thanks to Petra, the creator of this mod, players now have this option when playing on PC.

Petra’s mod allows players to change the buttons displayed. With it, players will get visual queues that match their DualShock. This is a huge help to those who prefer PlayStation’s controller. Especially to those who might get confused when the game tells them to press X.

11 High Framerate Cutscenes

If you have a great PC and love everything looking as good as it can, you’ll probably want to grab this mod. This mod replaces all of the cutscenes in the game with interpolated 120fps versions that looks jaw-dropping.

While there are some technical requirements to get this mod to work, it’s worth having a look if your rig can handle it. Cutscenes are such an important part of the game, after all!

10 Nintendo Switch Button Replacer

This is a mod that tweaks Paetra’s PlayStation Button mod. This is a tweak that was born from a simple request that was answered by the mod community. Ritz’s tweak makes Nier Replicant show Nintendo Switch buttons instead.

In order to run this tweak, players still have to install Paetra’s mod. Only then can they add this to comfortably play with their Nintendo Switch controllers. Although it is in the modder’s plan to fix it, it seems that this mod is not compatible with Special K for the time being.

9 Ersh And SkacikPL’s High FPS Fix

PC Gamers are known for tweaking games to make them look as good as they can. Modders have been a significant part of this, making Skyrim look next-gen and improving many other games. One of the things that PC Gamers are very enthusiastic about is a game’s fps.

Nier Replicant is not a game that has unlocked its frames per second for PC Gamers. However, Ersh and SkacikPL took care of it. They developed a mod that does. Those who have a great monitor and a good GPU can use this mod to reach more than 60 fps.

8 Clean ReShade Preset

Nier Replicant is a gorgeous remaster in an extraordinary setting. The game looks great, but it could look much better. The game has some issues that can be solved by slightly adjusting light and color. Some fundamental changes can already go a long way to make the game look better.

ChaserJZX developed a mod that makes a huge difference by making a small change. According to ChaserJZX, the mod’s goal is to make the game look cleaner and crisp. CleanReShade causes the game to be free from its usual washed-out look and green tint.

7 Nier Perfect V2

Although Nier Replicant’s remaster looks much greater than the original, it shares the lack of color seen in the first versions of the game. It might be an aesthetic choice or even a limitation that the developers faced. Either way, plenty of players wish the game had a little more color in it.

The modder who came up with Nier Perfect V2 is one of those players. OKJaye likes colors, and the game didn’t have enough. So the modder tried to add some colors without going too far.

6 Replicant’s Little Helper

Replicant’s Little Helper is more of a pack with mods than a mod itself. What makes it unique is that it is all set in a way that makes it all compatible. It contains 3Dmigoto mods like PS4 Buttons and the Ultrawide Fix working alongside Reshade and Special K.

Since Special K is required to use Replicant’s Little Helper, players might want to have it working first. Once it is confirmed that the game runs with Special K, simply drop the zip file content into the Nier Replicant folder.

5 Papa Nier Launcher

The original version of Nier was not even called Replicant. Back then, there was a west exclusive version of the game called Nier Gestalt. That version of Nier was an older man who was Yonah’s father instead of her brother.

This mod was made so players can play Papa Nier from the start of the game. The mod also allows players to play Kainé, but there might be some problems involved when doing so. It might be good to check the mod’s page before using it.

4 Father’s Diary

Fans of Nier Gestalt and thus those who download mods to play as “Papa Nier” instead will need this mod. Without it, the game’s loading screens are displayed as pages from Yonah’s diary, in which she will often refer to Nier.

The problem is that she refers to him as her brother. This mod will change that, correcting that little plot hole. Still, nothing to be done for players who decide, instead, to play as Kainé…

3 Papa Nier Voice

Playing as Papa Nier was not enough for Goshante. Thanks to the modder’s passion, players were blessed with a mod that appeals to Nier fans’ nostalgia. Goshante’s Papa Nier Voice substitutes brother Nier’s voice with the original lines from Nier Gestalt.

Upon installing it, players will get much closer to the original Nier Gestalt experience. To many players, the real Nier is the one who was voiced by Jamieson Price. Although Nier doesn’t have many memorable lines, many players want to relive the good memories of their first time with the franchise.

2 Papa Nier Voice Alt. Version

This mod is actually dead-jack’s updated version of Goshante’s Papa Nier Voice. However, it is not just the audio from Nier Gestalt passed to the new game. It does have something different to offer. Some of Nier’s voice lines do not match perfectly with the Gestalt version of the game. Some didn’t even exist back then.

This mod replaces unmatched voice lines with other voice lines that fit better the context. Some voice lines do not have a match. Dead-jack’s solution was to replace them with silence. Over 100 lines were replaced, and the creator of this mod intends to keep updating it.

1 ReplicantGadget

This mod is a multi-purpose tool for NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139. It was created by Asiern and provides a number of functions to those playing the latest version of the game on PC. Generally speaking, this is a cheat tool.

ReplicantGadget allows players to change Nier’s model during gameplay. There is a tab in which it is possible to make Nier’s health and magic infinite. It also has an option to change Nier’s level. Players that just intend to rush through the game and see the story can use this mod to become an invincible, high-level Nier from the start.
