Nier Replicant ver 1.22474487139 is a gorgeous remake of Yoko Taro’s PS3-era classic, and now we’re getting our first hint that it might be coming to Nintendo’s handheld console. A new dataine posted to the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit (thanks, VGC!) points to code that references graphical settings used to play the game at least once on the Nintendo Switch.

Reddit user SkacikPL posted their findings as an image file showing some of Nier Replicant’s code. The graphics preset file has a line that references “NX,” which was the internal codename for the Nintendo Switch. Since the code is for graphics, SkacikPL suggests that this implies someone at Square Enix played Nier Replicant on the Switch at least once, although they point out that this might not mean a Switch release is imminent. There’s no mention of the Switch anywhere else in the game’s code, so this might mean plans for a Switch release were scrapped before Nier Replicant’s release or were simply too far from being finalized.

Nier Replicant ver 1.22474487139 is the remake of Nier and Nier Gestalt for the PS3/Xbox 360. Featuring upgraded graphics, tweaked combat, and extra content, this definitive version was given 5/5 stars by our reviewer, Andrea Shearon, who called the game “Yoko Taro’s best work.”

Much like Nier Automata, “You’ll play and “beat” Replicant once, then you’ll do it again, and Taro will continue leading you through rabbit hole after rabbit hole for as long as you’ll let him — and at some point, things will make sense.”

If there’s to be a Nier Switch announcement, it’ll likely come in the next few weeks during E3. In the meantime, we’ve got plenty of Nier Replicant guides to help you out if you’re stuck.
