Following the unexpected and massive success of Nier: Automata, Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito confirmed a couple of months ago that the Japanese company is planning to create a new title in the series, but it looks as if the most recent release still has some undisclosed content in store for those willing to look for it. As it so happens, the action-RPG’s developers recently revealed that it actually hides a secret that no one has discovered yet.

This much was revealed during a recent interview in Famitsu in which Nier: Automata developers such as Saito, Yoko Taro, director Takahisa Taura, and more shared stories about the game’s development for its first anniversary. According to a translation of the interview from Siliconera, the secret – referred to as “that” – has yet to be found by players, but since the team members feel that making it public knowledge would be bad, they have decided to keep it under wraps for the time being.

According to the interview, this Nier: Automata secret made its way into the game due to various circumstances, but with the developers having approached the subject with intentionally vague language, it’s difficult to determine exactly what “that” is. When pressed for more information, the team stated that they feel going into any further detail on the issue might somehow cause some problems. Be that as it may, fans are told to think of it as Nier: Automata’s last secret.

As of writing, it’s still unclear as to what this particular secret in Nier: Automata is, but the interview did shed light on other unknown details about the game, such as the ability to hold a D-Pad direction and hit R3 to change the camera zoom, which could cause some clipping through textures. Considering the fact that Platinum Games and Square Enix kept a feature such as this from fans, there’s really no telling what the other “unpleasant” secret could be. That said, though, perhaps the revelation of this camera control ability is a hint to fans to use as a starting point in finding it. So, taking everything into account, news of the secret will likely cause many to begin a potentially never-ending hunt for this hidden aspect in a bid to bring it to light.

Nier: Automata is available now for PC and PlayStation 4.
