Until the return of randomized weapon rolls in Destiny 2: Forsaken in September, fans have had to rely on weapon catalysts and masterworks in order to make weapons feel a little more dynamic and less predictable. After being added to the game through the most recent expansion Warmind, the extremely rare exotic weapon catalysts provide another way for players to boost already powerful exotic weapons by completing certain objectives in-game. The system has proven to be pretty popular, even influencing Faction Rally events, and now Bungie has confirmed that even more exotic catalysts are coming soon.

In an effort to incentivize Destiny 2 players to donate to a charity during a streaming event, community manager dmg04 promised fans 1 patch note from the upcoming update 1.2.3 if certain thresholds were hit. After surpassing 10,000 donations, it was revealed a that the exotic catalyst for the hand cannon Sturm could be earned by players who defeat enemies on the planetoid Nessus.

During the GuardianCon charity stream, dmg04 also revealed a few additional nuggets from the upcoming patch. One of the biggest revealed changes is that the Momentum modifier is being removed from Heroic Adventures. Additional notes include the ability to previous sparrow contrails and spawn FX from the player’s inventory, Iron Banner events will use fire pits instead of flags for capture zones, all Mercury forged weapons can be purchased from Brother Vance once they’ve all been unlocked, and Escalation Protocol weapon rewards improve each time the final boss is killed.

The much-anticipated update 1.2.3 is scheduled for launch on July 17 and while players don’t know everything that the patch is bringing to the table, it will have a major impact on the game. The Crucible is getting a few tweaks as the Quickplay playlist is moving to 6v6 permanently, Supremacy is becoming a weekly rotating mode, Rumble is being added as a full-time playlist option, and various other gametypes like Control are updating the victory score threshold. JUst like a previous update, Bungie is continuing to improve exotic armor by providing some much-needed buffs to help make each one feel more unique and viable such as the Lucky Raspberry, Dunemarchers, and Starfire Protocol.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
