A biker who was livestreaming his ride through New York City two days ago was lucky enough to have come across a real-life NPC from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and to get the interaction on film.
This comes courtesy of Twitch biker-slash-streamer Miekii, whose ’thing’ is to ride around New York City, filming along the way in hopes of capturing candid moments as they unfold on the streets of the Big Apple, and streaming them to Twitch.
One hilariously lucky moment was caught during one of his rides the other day. While taking a breather close to Central Park, a man crosses his path and delivers a suspiciously Oblivion NPC-esque line of dialogue out of nowhere:
Then off he goes, on his merry way. We don’t actually get to see his face, but everything else about him has Oblivion NPC written all over it. His voice, the way he delivers the line, and the distinct lack of any preceding context or logical follow-up to the statement - it’s all there. Not to mention the hilarity of the spoken content itself.
It’s the end of the world and people are buying toilet paper. I guess they plan to s*** themselves to death!
It’s of utmost importance that someone out there takes this clip and overlays it with one of the signature Oblivion soundtracks that tinkle out in the background of any typical interaction with the game’s townsfolk.
Doing so has been a thing on the Internet for a while now. Random video clips entirely unrelated to Oblivion containing footage of dialogue that is distinctly Oblivion-y are sourced. That is, interactions that are particularly awkward, stiff, nonsensical, or otherwise just a bit off. Then, one simply adds one of the previously-mentioned soundtracks to the background, and voila! It might as well be straight outta the game itself. Here’s a particularly golden example.
Another exhilarating sighting filmed by the Miekii on the 4th April can be found in this clip - the empty Manhattan streets populated only by a few motorbikers and one guitar-wielding naked cowboy. Well, he was at least wearing briefs, so the clip is still somewhat PG13.
Naked cowboys donning surgical masks, real-life Oblivion NPCs roaming the empty streets of New York, what’s next? These truly are absurd times.
