Riot Games releases Valorant update 0.49, a new patch that changes the characters Omen and Sage and adds new features. In Valorant update 0.47, Riot Games made changes to Raze, Sage, and fixed a major, game-breaking bug with Cypher’s Spycams.
The Valorant 0.49 update is now available to download, mostly adding quality of life changes to the game’s closed beta. When Omen leaves his shadow form he “immediately becomes vulnerable” and players have to be closer to him to know where he’s using his From the Shadows ability to teleport to. There are also some changes to Sage’s Barrier Orb as it “will only spawn a chunk of the barrier if it is supported by the ground” and can only be placed on boxes or the ground and not on smaller pieces of geometry. Omen and Breach’s visuals have been updated.
There are a few changes to Valorant’s maps such as curtains being added to the top of the double doors on Haven so that players can’t use Sage’s Barrier Orb to see through and a fix for an issue with Cypher’s camera being placed on Haven A Main boxes. Riot Games also gave a “massive thanks” to those who helped it fix geometry exploits with Haven, Bind, and Split, confirming that the many Valorant closed beta testers really are helping to make the game much better.
The Valorant patch adds some new features too such as the game’s ranked mode and ranked matchmaking, which Riot says will “go live in the near future”. The developer had confirmed details about Valorant’s ranked mode last week which also suggests that Riot is nearly ready to make it available.
In Valorant’s Observer Mode, Ghost Cheat has been added as an option in custom games with cheats enabled so that players can “fly around the map in no-clip mode”. There is now a Leave match button in the ESC menu in custom games which allows players to leave a custom game without being punished with it.
This Valorant update does more things than the 0.47 update that was released last week and it shows that Riot is really making its way through the list of things that need to be fixed. Map exploits, changes to characters, and fixing bugs are all important things to look at before the game leaves closed beta. However, the closed beta has only been available for a few weeks meaning that there will likely be some time to go until the full Valorant release date this summer.
