Netflix has released a new episode for their latest hit documentary series, Tiger King. That being said, the additional episode acts more of a follow-up to the convoluted, madcap story of Joe Exotic and his obsession with Carol Baskin and big cats. The episode – entitled “The Tiger King And I” – is hosted by Community’s Joel McHale.
McHale will be joined by some of the show’s main characters including John Reinke, Joshua Dial, John Finlay, Saff, Erik Cowie, Rick Kirkman as well as Jeff and Lauren Lowe. The new special now makes the Tiger King series eight episodes long and appears to have been pushed into production following the spike in popularity the documentary found as people look for something to binge while in self-isolation. The additional episode was announced on April 9 and released days later on April 12.
In a short promotional video, McHale explains how the “The Tiger King And I” intends to catch up with the documentary’s key players, finding out where they are in life now and how the documentary has impacted them on a day-to-day basis. It’s worth noting that both Carole Baskin and Doc Antle don’t appear in this new offering and that both refuted what was shown in the series.
Following its release, Tiger King quickly folded itself into pop culture, with the show accruing more viewers than more established Netflix offerings such as Stranger Things and Ozark as new meme content flooded the internet in the documentaries wake.
Tiger King is out now on Netflix.
