Nostalgic novelty: So what’s new?

To recap
Plumbers, mushrooms and a pink-dressed princess. Sounds like a great night in. New Super Mario Bros U might not offer much new to the Mario envelope and doesn’t push the Wii U to its graphical limits, but it rests on nostalgia and tried-and-tested themes. Add well designed levels, a progressive difficulty level suitable for all and there are few side-scrolling platformers that will better it. It’s a lot of fun, it’s Mario in HD for the first time, and it’s the first excuse you need to go buy a Wii U.
