In a refreshing break from the Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition release news we’ve been getting, Games Workshop also has some Blood Bowl goodies for us this week.
Blood Bowl is a tabletop fantasy football game with a twist originally released in 1986. In 2016 a new version of the game was released, the first in 22 years, to critical acclaim. The game has continued to be supported with the addition of new teams and accessories as well as regular rule updates. It has all your usual fantasy species tropes as well as many others from the Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar worlds. It portrays a more violent version of Football (American Football to those outside the US) and Rugby and includes off-field rules to improve or hinder a team’s abilities.
First up, we have the latest issue of Spike, the update journal. Now up to Issue 9, it breaks from tradition by looking at three hybrid teams rather than a single one. The overview includes rule updates for the; Chaos All-Stars, Underworld Denizens, and Middenheim Maulers. We also a star play spotlight for each team as well as playbook strategies. As usual, the look and feel are reminiscent of Football magazines and game programs. Spike issue 9 is also available as a digital download from Warhammer Digital.
Of the three teams discussed in Spike Issue 9, GW has put together two great starting sets for Underworld Denizens and Middenheim Maulers, saving you a lot of time, effort, and money. Underworld Denizens features Skaven and goblin teammates. Middenheim Mauler’s players are a mix of Human, Dwarf, and Halflings. Both boxes include enough miniatures to field a team as well as some game balls, team tokens, turn markers, and a transfer sheet.
Next up is the Old World Alliance, Team Card Pack. It contains character reference cards for Humans, Dwarves, Halflings, and Ogres as well as some Star Players. Bob Bifford gets a Golden Era Star Player card and three blank cards are included so you can create your own. The pack is rounded out with a team roster card as well as three Magical Memorabilia and Benefit of Training Cards.
Last up on our list of new releases is the Old World Alliance and Underworld Denizens Pitch and Dugout. This is a new double-sided cardboard playing surface for you to host your matches on. It also includes two double-sided cardboard dugout area that matches the pitch.
All Blood Bowl items mentioned above are available to preorder now and should be released on July 11.
