New Pokemon Snap is finally here, and players have found themselves immersed in the game. With various opportunities available to capture Pokemon in some awesome and hilarious shots, it’s easy to spend hours trying to capture that perfect photograph.
Each Pokemon can be captured in four different situations or poses, rated from one to four stars by Professor Mirror. Sometimes, however, you keep coming across a Pokemon in the same pose over and over again, and can’t seem to capture it above one star.
So how exactly do you get a Pokemon to pose differently if you’re struggling?
Wait Until Night-Time
Sometimes it’s as simple as waiting until it’s night-time on a course.
Many courses can be undertaken during the day or at night, depending on the player’s choice. If you’ve noticed a Pokemon is always standing the same way during the day, try looking out for it at night. You might see it asleep, or hanging out with a sleeping Pokemon in a way that makes photographing it entirely different!
Up The Research Level
As you progress through courses and earn points, you’ll notice the research level getting higher which will unlock new Pokemon in that course. Not only that, though — you might catch Pokemon you’re familiar with doing different things!
When you advance in a research level, you might be keeping a keen eye out for Pokemon you haven’t seen before, but you should also be looking for the ones you have. They might be doing something different, giving you the chance to catch them in an elusive four-star pose that will seriously impress Professor Mirror back at the lab.
Use Fluffruit To Lure Them
Shortly into the game, you’ll unlock Fluffruit! These are snacks you can throw towards Pokemon to lure them closer to the camera or something else, but they also seem to really delight some Pokemon.
Of course, some will become nervous and run away, but others will happily munch on a piece of fruit and sometimes it’s as simple as that being a two or three-star pose right there.
Test out every single Pokemon when it comes to Fluffruit by throwing some down on the ground nearby and snapping a shot in case that’s just what Mirror is looking for.
…Or Hit Them
Many people were disappointed that Pester Balls were no longer a thing when New Pokemon Snap was released… but they kind of are.
Fluffruit can be used to hit Pokemon just the same way it can be used as a tasty treat. This has caused some rather disturbing shots, such as knocking Pokemon completely unconscious at points! This doesn’t seem to bother Professor Mirror, who likes these shots and often awards them more stars.
You might feel guilty for doing it, but apparently, this is what the game demands, so if the Pokemon doesn’t want to eat the fruit — or even if it does — try hitting it directly on the head.
Play The Flute
The Poke Flute from the original game is back, but now it’s called Melody. It serves a similar purpose, but don’t just play it when around sleeping Pokemon in an attempt to rouse them.
Playing it around Pokemon who are perfectly awake can have an effect too, as sometimes they’ll come closer to you to hear the song. Other Pokemon will even dance when they hear the music!
If you’re passing pretty much any Pokemon, it’s worth hitting that trigger button and letting some music flow free so you can see if they react to it at all. The rule is that you can’t play enough music, even if it’s the middle of the day and all of the Pokemon are awake!
Watch For Pokemon Being Close Together
Sometimes, you’ll snap a shot of a Pokemon and then turn away to look at something else, but if they’re edging closer to another Pokemon then it’s worth hanging around to see what happens if they get close.
Grookey and Pichu, for example, play together and we see that pretty early on. Other Pokemon do the same if given the chance!
Then there are the Pokemon that will bully others. It might not be the best feeling in the world to photograph — just like knocking small defenseless critters unconscious with fruit — but it’ll get you those stars you need.
Just Wait!
The main way to get Pokemon closer to you or in different poses is to simply be patient! You can go through the courses an unlimited amount of times, and some Pokemon will show up in different poses throughout. Just because you saw Pichu in one pose at the start of the course doesn’t mean that’s the only way he’ll be!
Sometimes your attention is pulled a million different ways by each Pokemon, so it’s important to go through each course multiple times anyway and make sure you snap everything that you can.
