Today, Duncan Ironmonger, the CEO of SCUF Gaming, revealed the SCUF Vantage, a competitive and customizable controller designed specifically for the PlayStation 4. Notably, Microsoft revealed the Xbox One Adaptive Controller a few days ago to give gamers with disabilities more accessibility. The Vantage controller, on the other hand, was designed for personalization and configurability.

Developed with the PlayStation Official Licensing Program, this PS4 controller offers players the following features: side-mounted right and left ‘Sax’ buttons, a removable faceplate for better customization, advanced audio control with an audio touch bar, and removable vibration modules to lessen hand fatigue. Moreover, its ergonomic design lessens necessary hand movements to give players the biggest advantage possible, which may be why it is called the Vantage.

Individual preference is also key for this controller, as it comes customizable to suit the owner, with the following modular features: a paddle control system with four removable back paddles, a quick-access remapping switch, customizable thumbsticks with different heights in concave or convex config., adjustable hair triggers with stops and extenders, and a choice of D-pads. If that’s not convincing enough, check out the controller below:

The Vantage controller is set to release late summer 2018 and can be preordered either at SCUF Gaming’s website or GameStop. A wired model will set players back $169.95 USD and a wireless model will cost $199.95 USD. Each version comes with a variety of parts and a USB cable, with the wireless model also coming with a travel case. Considering the PlayStation 4 is reportedly in the “final phase of its life cycle,” it remains to be seen how prominent this controller becomes in competitive gaming.

It’s worth mentioning that shortly after the reveal of the Xbox One Adaptive Controller, the official PlayStation Middle East Twitter account may have made fun of Microsoft’s latest controller. Although the tweet was apparently deleted, it seems to be an example of the console wars spilling over into controller design, but notably, Microsoft and Sony have dug into each other before with little-to-no consequence. Hopefully, that spat doesn’t have a negative influence on either controller when they hit the market.

The PlayStation 4 Vantage controller from SCUF is scheduled to release late summer 2018.
