When the PS5 console was officially revealed last week, it was mainly displayed from a vertical perspective, causing fans to wonder if it can be placed horizontally or in any other way that would be suitable for their rooms. At that time, images surfaced online showing the PS5 laying on its side. But today, PlayStation has officially published images of the PS5 in a horizontal position, effectively confirming early reports and images.
The information comes from a variety of social media posts where users published official images of both, the PS5 and the digital version laying on their sides. In the images, both of the consoles are next to each other with the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller next to them. Additionally, the new slogan “Play Has No Limits” along with the expected release date of holiday 2020 can be seen underneath the two versions of the console. Finally, in the bottom-left corner, one can see the PlayStation and Sony trademarks which officialize the images’ authenticity and prove that they are indeed real and are not some sort of mockups.
Overall, this can be seen as very good news to those who were thinking that the PS5 could only be placed vertically. Since everyone’s setup is going to be different due to room layout, shelves, and many other physical factors, a horizontal option can be seen as an alternative when figuring out how to place the console.
Earlier in the week, PlayStation’s vice president of UX Design Matt MacLaurin confirmed that the PS5 will be bigger than the PS4, but did not provide the exact size and specifications for the console. Either way, those who own a PS4 should be able to vaguely picture the PS5’s size and plan how they are going to place the console before buying it. Best case scenario, either the vertical position or the horizontal position will work. Worst case scenario, only one of the positions will work unless there is absolutely no room for the console and another method needs to be taken into consideration. However, knowing that the PS5 can officially be placed on its side puts all worries to rest.
