Microsoft Flight Simulator patch 1.7.14.0 is the revered aviation sim’s first major update since its massively successful launch last month. If you’re a Flight Sim aficionado, you’ll be glad to know that this patch introduces a variety of much desired changes - however, you might have to do a full reinstall in order to reap the benefits.

The patch notes were recently published over at the official Microsoft Flight Simulator website. If you haven’t installed it yet, all you need to do is close and relaunch Flight Sim - however, if you experience any issues whatsoever, it is recommended that you do a full, clean reinstall in order to ensure that the patch is properly loaded into the game.

In this instance, you’ll also need to make sure you’ve deleted any related files from your hard drive. Although uninstalling the game technically removes it from your PC, residual files could still be hanging out in a separate directory, which can directly affect your attempts to reinstall the game.

Instead of trawling through every single folder on your PC, though, you can simply search for ‘Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe’ and ‘MicrosoftFlightSimulator,’ which should pull up pretty much all of the relevant files.

Once you’ve done that, you can reinstall Microsoft Flight Simulator with the new patch intact.

In terms of details, the latest patch rectifies any lingering crash issues caused by external hardware or peripherals, while also preventing the game from crashing whenever the TBM 930 package is deleted. On top of that, it solves several of the regular installation errors that people were experiencing, allowing you to download and install the game smoothly.

The patch also optimizes the game’s visual fidelity, while simultaneously ensuring that no FPS drops occur as a result of using programs like Simconnect.

Microsoft Flight Simulator patch 1.7.14.0 is available now - just remember to uninstall your game prior to downloading it in order to ensure that the patch is installed correctly.
