While Magic: The Gathering is one of the longest-running physical card games out there, its digital presence has grown big over the past few years. This is mostly centered on Magic The Gathering: Arena these days, which is finally playable on Mac.

The core system of Magic: The Gathering translates very nicely to a digital medium, both in terms of visuals and gameplay. Nothing in the lands to mana to cards gameplay needs to be changed for the digital Arena, and it makes the time consuming minutia of the game nonexistent. The game has served as a great introduction to Magic for many, as well as a whetstone to keep experts’ skills sharp.

While the banned list update is a big deal for all MTG players, those who play Arena got another big update today as well. That update came in the form of the new Core Set 2021 being released on Arena. The set is filled with reprints of old classics and new takes on old mechanics. It also features some new support for tribes, and introduces Dogs and Cats as fully cohesive tribes in their own right.

What’s really incredible about this particular release is that Arena is getting the set ahead of the physical release. Players who want to practice with this easy to use set will have to dive into the digital to try it at this time. Now’s a great time to grab a budget Commander or try the new Jumpstart format and dive in.

Magic The Gathering: Arena is available on PC, and now, on Mac.
