It’s finally here, preorder day for Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 Indomitus. And, if there is anything we’ve learned over the years, there is always time for “One last thing!”.
GW has kept the surprises coming throughout the pre-preorder period in an attempt to whet our appetites. It’s worked! At least for the launch box at any rate. 9th Edition, the newest version of their tabletop wargame is set to hit shelves in 2 weeks (July 25th), with preorders starting today (July 11th). The rules can be seen as a refining and logical iteration over the previous release, rather than a full rewrite. This is a good thing as their established customer base is still able to use everything they already own, pending the release of new codexes down the line. If GW had forced people to buy everything again, they probably still would have, but they wouldn’t have been happy about it!
The Limited Edition, 9th Edition rule book has only 2000 copies printed worldwide and it comes with a certificate that tells you what number the copy is. It is a hardback edition with a white-colored cloth-effect cover with black and gold printed over the top. There is a stiff black card outer that the slides into to get some extra protection. The overall feel is that of a holy document that should be respected and revered. This fits with the Holy Crusade that is likely to be the main storyline for this edition.
If you thought the outside looked good, wait till you take a gander at the inside! One of the first features you’ll come across is the deluxe fold-out map that has been carefully weathered to look like an ancient document. This shows not only the extent of the Imperium of Man, but the devastating effect The Great Rift has had. Included of course, are both the core and advanced rules that you need for playing games. The new Crusade system and mission pack “Eternal War” complete the rules offering and is joined by tons of lore goodies, giving you a comprehensive guide to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. To round out the bustling 368 pages, they have been given the royal treatment with gilt edging providing a quick flash of gold as you flick through and looking even more impressive on display.
The Limited Edition Rulebook this time around is something special and it should be noted that it will only be available in exceedingly low quantities, once it’s gone it’s gone. Price can be expected to be at a premium. You can Preorder Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition goodies now at your local games store or online at the GW web site.
