PlayStation China joined the initiative China Hero Project to provide updates on various projects under the collaborative umbrella. One update showcased a brand-new gameplay trailer for PlaySation’s upcoming shooter Convallaria.
The new trailer was presented during a domestic online event within Beijing that revealed the status of various titles that are in development under the initiative. Convallaria - developed by Loong Force - is a third-person online shooter in the works for PS4, and its new gameplay trailer flaunts the title’s PvP and PvE content, its high quality, three-dimensional environments, and the reveal of a robotic rock boss all tied together with stunning visuals.
Debuting at China Joy 2019, Convallaria was initially presented in its theatrical trailer displaying an immersive universe, that combined Blade Runner vibes with the creatures and magic found in The Legend of Zelda series. The current gameplay trailer presented gamers with a better look at the environments on offer, and how they would affect the game’s combat mechanics. The colors on show are beautiful and the ability to weaponize natural elements, such as lightning, makes Convallaria’s world very inviting. The game was created within Unreal Engine and exhibits an ethereal quality in its visuals, featuring a few accompanying robots that could have come from the world of Disney’s WALL-E.
PlayStation described Convallaria as a unique shooter designed to entice players with “different emotional clutters, realistic experience, and stronger and smoother battle gameplay.” The team at Loong Force have been working on finding a balance between the game’s aesthetics and its figure animation, with the intent to expand its systems to other games in the future. Aside from emotionally-charged battles waiting for players in-game, Convallaria also carries an external emotional thread within the team, that expresses the developer’s project moto of “Love that couldn’t be delivered.”
Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Convallaria appears to be a passion project from the Chengdu-based development team, created as part of the China Hero Project. The initiative was designed to support Chinese start-up game developers as they strive to enter the global market. The project is supported by partners such as Epic Games and Unity Technologies, looking to expand the video game market in China.
Convallaria is in development for PlayStation 4.
