The cultural phenomenon that is Fortnite continues to attract millions of battle royale players, many of whom have been looking forward to the latest update, v13.40. Which brings with it the long awaited addition of Joy Ride cars, as well as Summer Splash Limited Time Modes and Coral Castle Points of Interest. Thanks to data miners, fans can also get an early peek at the new cosmetic items hidden in the update, all of which should be made available during the rest of the season.
The leak comes from the Twitter account of data miner Lucas7yoshi. He reveals plenty of new Fortnite skins including the Season X inspired Mecha Team Shadow, which appears to go perfectly with the Shadow Jet Set backbling, the Island themed Kalia, and the Splatoon inspired Splatterella. There are also items continuing the theme of summer, such as the Coral Cowl and Wind Shell backbling, and the King Krab skin. Other items include a return for Crustina and Castaway Jonesy skins.
Weapon skin additions include some very colorful camos indeed, with Rainbow Rodeo blasting primary colors, and Sticker Star bringing “United Unicorn Council Approved” pink and blue tones to players’ guns. There are some smarter options for Fortnite players who wish to stay more restrained in their color choices, with the Shadow Combo Cleaver, Street Blade and Trench Blade pickaxes, and Homescape gun skin. One skin and backbling are detailed as “To be determined,” suggesting either that they have yet to be fully uncovered, or they may be potential reveals which developer Epic would disapprove of.
Other skins creating a stir are the Marvel Avengers tie-in Hulk Smashers, which are currently only available for players taking part in the Marvel game’s closed beta on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The items are reported to become available for other Fortnite players at a future date. Liverpool FC soccer fans will enjoy celebrating with the Raise the Cup emote, while the Taxi emote is the perfect signal for players needing a quick getaway.
With Fortnite reaching a record concurrent 12.3 million concurrent players during Travis Scott’s Astronomical event in April 2020, it appears that the game is in good health, despite regular and often unwarranted criticism from parents and even members of the Royal Family for its addictive powers. The addition of Joy Ride cars and the latest skins are likely to provide plenty of encouragement for long-time players to stick with it.
Even though skins are simply cosmetic, their popularity shows that Fortnite fans continue to enjoy personalizing their characters, a trend unlikely to end any time soon.
Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
