Few franchises across any medium can boast the impact, history, and staying power of Dungeons & Dragons. First debuting well over 45 years ago in the mid-1970s, the role-playing game has had incredible historical impact and significance through video games, literature, film, and countless other forms of media.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the game, lore, and larger universe is still growing and expanded today. To the interest and joy of Dungeons & Dragons fans around the world, it appears the wait for new in-game material and literature will not be long at all.

Adding further context to this development, last year news broke that both Weis and Hickman had sued Wizards Of the Coast, the current owner of Dungeons & Dragons. The lawsuit was over an alleged contract breach regarding the then-forthcoming trilogy of new Dragonlance novels, which would have seen the first new written content by the pair in over 10 years. The lawsuit eventually settled, leading to the duo announcing that “exciting news” would be coming in the future.

With all of the adventure, excitement, and intrigue to be found in the high fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragons, it is intriguing to see the real-life drama that is leading to its creation. Despite the twists and turns, it would appear that fans of the long-running game and the larger universe have plenty to look forward to this year.

The original Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonlance is available now in both digital and physical formats.
