New details have emerged for the upcoming Disco Elysium TV series.
Last week, we found out that Disco Elysium, also known as Alcoholic Cop Simulator and the best-danged game to come out of 2019, was getting its own TV series. Developer slash publisher ZA/UM has paired up with dj2 Entertainment to create the TV adaptation, which is the same company that’s also making live-action adaptations for other games like Life is Strange, Vampyr, and Sleeping Dogs.
They also had a hand in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which might be enough to raise a few eyebrows.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that dj2 is currently in the process of hiring writers and has plans to pitch the show later this year. No details on who might be first in line, but this sort of game adaptation seems ideally suited to streaming services such as Netflix, given their success with other video game adaptations like Castlevania.
Disco Elysium has won multiple awards, including three BAFTA awards and four prizes at the 2019 Game Awards, including Best Indie, Best RPG, and Best Narrative. Our very own Jamie Latour picked it as the best game of 2019, and he’s hardly alone in that assessment.
Here’s hoping that the TV series has smooth sailing between now and its first pilot episode.
