We missed this over the weekend, but New Blood Interactive has turned its wacky co-op sci-fi game Unfortunate Spacemen into a free-to-play title. Launched during this weekend’s PC Gaming Show 2020, the game is 100% and 100% awesome. You can grab it on Steam right now and partner up with up to 15 friends to cause space hijinks.

There are some cosmetic microtransactions available in-game for purchase, but nothing content-wise is being sold. There will be no lootboxes, no in-game currencies, no battle passes: you can simply choose to support the devs with some costumes if you’d like. That’s a hell of a deal if you ask me.

For those unfamiliar, Unfortunate Spacemen launched roughly four years ago on Steam in early access. A typical business plan for publisher New Blood Interactive, the game was continuously updated over the years with numerous bug fixes, extra content, and general polish. When it came time for launch, the company looked at its motto (WeHate.Money) and decided to give the finger to conventional wisdom.

If you happened to buy the game when it was available for sale, then you aren’t being left out in the cold. As a sign of appreciation for dedicated fans, an exclusive early access costume bundle will be yours and only yours. New Blood is promising it will never be able available for purchase, so you can rest easy knowing you’re one of the cool kids.

If you still want some exclusive costumes, a “Death Proof” bundle is available for purchase that comes with different cosmetics and dance emotes. It is going for $19.99, which is the same price as the early access version. Don’t feel like you need to buy it to play Unfortunate Spacemen, though. There’s a reason New Blood hates money, after all.

So why not get the gang together and explore some desolate space stations together? You could do far worse than a sweet free game made by really cool people. I mean, you could be playing Anthem, which is just awful. At least this title has funky little dances and actually works properly. That’s more than EA’s sad MMO looter shooter can claim.
