A new mod for Animal Crossing: New Horizons that removes our least favorite fish is at least an A+ in our book. The hit life simulator from Nintendo has already eaten up dozens, if not hundreds, of hours of our lives already. And that’s despite some glaring flaws. With so many people playing the game, there was no way Nintendo alone could keep up with demand for new content or updates. That’s where mods come in, and this one in particular is sure to be a major relief for anyone sick of a certain fish popping up over and over again.
The mod made by SmuggestGirl, simply titled “No Sea Bass”, removes all sea bass from the game. With it installed, players will be free to fish without fear of that large shadow being another worthless sea bass. For those who are as tired of the old “I caught a sea bass! No, wait—it’s at least a C+!” pun as we are, this is nothing short of a blessing. But, be aware that mods can only be run on modded Switch consoles, or emulated versions of Animal Crossing: New Horizon.
On the other end of the spectrum, SmuggestGirl is also responsible for a mod that removes all fish from the game except for the sea bass. This mod has only been downloaded a total of 11 times so far, compared to the bass removing mod’s 144 downloads.
Mods like this one are a fantastic way to allow players to balance games to their liking. The modding community for Animal Crossing is full of quality of life solutions such as this, with fishing related mods being quite popular. One other mod, for example, gives each fish a unique color so you can tell what they are before casting your reel.
As fantastic as Animal Crossing is, no game is without its rough edges that players will want smoothed over that the developer either can’t, or won’t, do. Tons of glitches and exploits were found early on in Animal Crossing, and now modders are starting to put out high quality mods to let players have more fun running their islands. It would be ideal if these changes came from Nintendo officially, or at least could be supported without modding the console or emulating the game, but at least they exist in some form.
