Netflix’s beloved anime The Dragon Prince, which has recently been renewed for four more seasons at the streaming giant, will soon venture into the virtual realm via a new tabletop RPG. Tales of Xadia is set in the same universe as the 2018 animated series, and it is scheduled to release sometime in 2021.
Wonderstorm and Fandom had announced about The Dragon Prince’s Tales of Xadia RPG during the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel last weekend. Tales of Xadia will reportedly pick up from where The Dragon Prince season 3 had ended, and it will tie in its narrative to the show’s upcoming season 4.
In Tales of Xadia, players will foray into the ruins of the Lux Area. The main storyline revolves around the restoration of the corrupted Suforage, which has been flinging wicked spirits into the world. According to Adam Bradford, Executive Producer and Vice President of Tabletop at Fandom, the upcoming RPG is an opportunity for aren’t fans to get involved in the bustling world of Xadia. There is a fresh storyline at play. And players can take on challenging adventures while collaborating with their friends. During the Comic-Con panel, The Dragon Prince co-creators Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond revealed that they themselves are tabletop enthusiasts, they also added that they were excited about their new collaboration with Fandom.
Cam Banks’ Cortex Prime is reportedly priming Tales of Xadia. The Cortex Prime is a set of modular rules that has been tailored to suit the weighty narrative demands of various story-centric games. In previous years, Cortex Prime has powered gameplay for various tabletop RPGs based on the Marvel, Firefly, and Supernatural franchises. In Tales of Xadia as well, the toolkit will anthologize the storyline between two parts. One involving a linear flow of plot from the season 3 ending, and another offering players a chance to select their own adventure.
Tales of Xadia is tipped for a 2021 release date. But before it comes out, there will be a public playtesting period to cleanse the game of flaws and imbalances. All told, fans of The Dragon Prince only have reasons to rejoice. They have four new seasons of their favorite show to look forward too. Plus now fans can also be a part of their beloved fantastical world through its new game.
