Mobile hero shooter Disorder just dropped in North America.
Are hero shooters still a genre? Apparently so, given the recent release of Bleeding Edge and the impending release of VALORANT. Chinese tech conglomerate NetEase also believes that hero shooters are the way to go, so they’ve recently surprised us with the release of Disorder: For Whom The Bell Tolls.
It’s a mobile-only, team-based hero shooter that takes place 10 years in the future. Three military factions hold the world hostage thanks to a stolen arsenal of nuclear weapons, with the player taking the role of characters from one of these three factions. There’s the “Cadaver Unit,” who use weird biotechnology to raise the dead, the “Pale Knights,” who feel it their duty to enforce peace through nuclear force, and the “Ghost Puppets,” who try and topple the world order through backroom deals and shady undertakings.
So far, there are 16 characters that each have unique abilities, along with four different game modes that will pit you against both AI-controlled and human opponents. Single Base Battle is basically attack and defend, Multi-Base Battle has multiple teams try to hold multiple bases at once, Offshore ULF has teams try to take over a nuclear-armed missile site, and Isle of the Dead puts teams on an irradiated island with only a single escape route.
There’s a season pass, multiple in-game currencies, daily and weekly missions, and unlockable cosmetics. Expect microtransactions galore.
A recent trailer tells the story of Prometheus, a character from the Pale Knights faction that’s related to another character from the Cadaver Unit. It’s a story that’s both interlaced with Greek mythology and terrible tragedy. It’s also slightly better translated than Disorder’s earlier two trailers, so it makes a bit more sense.
NetEase playtested the game in Southeast Asia last month, and it looks like things went well since now it’s time for a true North American launch. You can download Disorder for free on iOS, Android, or Windows Mobile devices.
