NeoGaf users believe that Sony is going to delay the launch of the PlayStation 5 due to changes on Sony’s website.
Sony had set plans to release the PlayStation 5 during the 2020 holiday. This was evident because PlayStation 5’s website listed it as “coming fall 2020.” This typically indicates a November release to kick off the holiday shopping season. However, a NeoGaf user named “Darkinstinct” was quick to notice that Sony had removed this release date from its website.
Along with noticing the removal of the release date, Darkinstinct also noticed that other countries were still running previous versions of the Sony website. Darkinstinct proved this by linking the Dutch website, in which the website still states “PlayStation 5 coming, Fall 2020 Market.” Now while this is most likely a mistake, and will be corrected soon, this difference in websites confused many of NeoGaf’s users.
Sony may very well be delaying the PS5 due to the economic hardship that some have endured throughout the world due to COVID-19. However, one user by the name of “A. Romero” wrote “This might be a scheduled change so they can update it with the actual date in preparation to the event that was supposed to happen on the 4th.” Other users were not as hopeful as “A.Romero” was, and believed that the PS5 would in fact be moving to a 2021 release date due to the fact that its original release date was removed from its website.
Regardless of what this means, the PlayStation 5 was confirmed to still be releasing by Christmas 2020 by Sony’s CEO Jim Ryan. However, a push back in release is still possible, which means that fans must wait patiently until Sony makes a real announcement to find out the whole truth.
