Today is National Video Game Day, a day that everybody can celebrate the wonderful joys that video games have brought over the years. And no celebration of the hobby would be complete without the sacred argument over which console is better. According to a survey of 1,000 Americans, people are split down the middle on whether Xbox or PlayStation is the best console.
According to the survey from TOP PR Firm Portland, 38% of people prefer both the Xbox and PlayStation. It’s interesting to see such a dead-even split between the two consoles considering that the PlayStation 4 has outsold the Xbox One by a two to one margin. As of March 2020, the PlayStation 4 has sold 108 million units worldwide. It’s interesting to see this even of a split going into the next generation as it might be an indicator of how close the next-gen console war is shaping up. Nintendo rounds out the survey with 21% of the vote.
Another poll shows that the favorite video game franchise is Super Mario. 47% of people polled said that Super Mario is the best video game franchise. It makes sense considering Mario has been around since the ’80s, and the Mario games are always highlights of Nintendo consoles. Call Of Duty came in second place with 21% of the vote, followed by Donkey Kong at 19% of the vote. Grand Theft Auto, Pokémon, Zelda, Sonic The Hedgehog, Final Fantasy, Halo, and Crash Bandicoot round out the top ten.
More stats show that of 1,000 people, 31% of them play video games every day or rarely. 23% of people play games two to three times a week. 66% of people will play mobile games when they are bored, while 41% of people play mobile games while watching TV. Stats like these are super exciting because it shows off different gamers habits, console, and game preferences.
National Video Game Day is an excellent reminder that this hobby is terrific, no matter where the console allegiance lies. Video games are a great way to set aside differences, come together, and play something amazing. Video games have been especially crucial in 2020, where everybody is trapped inside their homes. Video games have been a great way to pass the time and keep people distracted from the troubles of the outside world. Of course, gamers can celebrate again when National Video Games Day happens on September 12th.
