Disney is working on a National Treasure television series, it has been revealed. Disney’s parks have been heavily hit by COVID-19, losing $1 billion after they were forced to close in March, but the company’s streaming service Disney Plus has been hugely successful.

Speaking to Collider, National Treasure Series Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that he is making a National Treasure TV series for Disney Plus. The script for the show’s pilot has been completed, said Bruckheimer, and there is “an outline of the future episodes.” It’s unclear when the National Treasure TV show will enter production, as many TV shows have been forced to halt filming because of COVID-19. The Friends reunion special is one show that has been delayed.

Bruckheimer also revealed that Disney’s National Treasure TV show would have a much younger cast, suggesting that Nicolas Cage will not be returning for it. The cast of the TV show would also feature in a third National Treasure movie. The script for the movie is now being written, said the producer.

The National Treasure TV show is just one of several major shows Disney is developing for Disney Plus. There are also rumors that Disney is creating a new Star Wars show with a female character, and there are rumors that a third season of The Mandalorian is being planned.
