Gamescom didn’t just show off previously announced titles today, with a bevvy of world premieres sprinkled in throughout the whole show. Right off the bat, host Geoff Keighley dropped a trailer for Unknown9: Awakening, which had a whole bunch of splashy action, but not much explanation as to what the game actually is.

The brief, prerendered clip showed a young girl being chased down a dark alley, and gradually getting corralled into a corner. But when the whole chase is looking more and more futile, she whips out some crazy magical powers and lays waste to her pursuers. And… that’s it! There’s a title splash, and we’re left wondering just what the game actually is.

Apparently, Unknown9 is just one part of an ambitious multimedia project that includes novels, podcasts, comics, and (obviously) games. Awakening, in particular, is a narrative game that stars Haroona - a young girl living on the streets of Kolkata, and haunted by recurring visions of her own death. Gifted with innate supernatural abilities, Haroona struggles to keep her powers under control until a mentor helps her to hone them.

That’s all we known for now, but based on the trailer, the game will be chockful of evocative setpieces and compelling supernatural action.

Unknown9: Awakening has no release date.
