Movie Games Lunarium, a game publisher from Warsaw, Poland, will launch Lust from Beyond, a first-person horror-erotica game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, Zdzisław Beksiński and H.R. Giger, on September 24.

The indie studio has just released its first trailer, a NSFW compilation that showcases some of the first-person game’s subversive psychological and occult themes. Lust from Beyond, which was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter in 10 hours, tells the tale of Victor Holloway, an antiquarian who is tormented by sinister visions of a hellish nightmare.

To explore the meaning of his torment, he joins the Cult of Ecstasy, whose members guided by Victor’s visions seek to enter Lusst’ghaa - the Land of Ecstasy, beyond the borders of our reality, where inhabitants have been transformed by experiments into animals. The game is a sequel to Lust for Darkness and promises to push the envelope in terms of erotic and violent content.

Set in a Victorian mansion on the outskirts of Bleakmoor, the game clearly displays its influences within its Room of Delights and the Ritual Hall. Lovecraft, who was known as a master of supernatural horror, as well as Giger, a dystopian surrealist painter who worked on Alien and Beksiński, are each clearly referenced in Lust from Beyond.

Like Lust for Darkness, the latest title from Movie Games Lunarium promises to merge stealth, puzzle-solving, and survival – similar to games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Soma. While the new game is expected to be released on Steam, it remains to be seen if the digital distribution service will follow through. The original game was removed from the store until earlier this year, when a new, edited release was launched under the name Lust for Darkness: Dawn Edition.

Judging from the trailer though, the developers aren’t playing it safe this time around either. The studio promises to set new boundaries in horror and erotica themes, so stay tuned.
