Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlords has finally released in Early Access after an eight-year development period, and it looks like developers are in no rush to move the game anywhere else.
Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlords is the prequel to the series’ first installment, Warband; players take on the role of warriors fighting out the dying days of the Calradic Empire, controlling large armies and siege weaponry. The game is out and available on Early Access as of 3 AM PST today (March 30), but that didn’t stop fans from wondering about Bannerlords’ other versions.
Mount and Blade developer TaleWorlds is already fielding questions about console versions of the game, but the developer has firmly responded saying that the PC platform is its primary focus. As such, while a console version of the game will come in time, it won’t be arriving anytime soon. And while players are claiming that the game was advertised as being made for both PC and consoles, a console version of the game isn’t something that was frequently mentioned over the course of the game’s long development period. TaleWorlds began publishing weekly updates on the game’s development back in 2017, but even then, talk of a console port was few and far between.
Then there’s the fact that Mount and Blade: Warband’s own console ports for Xbox One and PS4 took a whopping six years to bring to fruition. Considering that Bannerlords has only just launched hours ago and TaleWorlds will likely be occupied with improving its Early Access version until the game is ready for a full release, it doesn’t look like the PC-to-console journey for Bannerlords will be any quicker.
Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlords is available now on PC.
