In anticipation of its upcoming presence in IGN’s Summer of Gaming (and the Summer Gaming Festivities that follow), game developer Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack have teased a sneak peek at some new footage from the Souls-like title, Mortal Shell.
The latest footage showcases a player taking out an enemy by slicing it up with dual-wielded weapons, which is no doubt just one of the many options that players will have in the way of combat.
For the unfamiliar, in Mortal Shell, players awake in a truly twisted world in which they must do the bidding of the mysterious “Dark Father,” taking on surreal enemies and harvesting the sacred glands. Along the way, players will be able to enter various “shells” - which are the deceased bodies of fallen warriors - with each shell having its own unique playstyle, allowing players to cater to their own playstyle preferences.
The non-linear campaign will feature plenty to explore and encounter, while dying - a lot - along the way.
“For a small team like ours, developing this title in many ways felt like crossing an ocean on a paddleboard,” stated the studio’s three co-founders - Andrew McLennan-Murray, Anton Gonzalez, and Vitaly Bulgarov. “To finally announce Mortal Shell is one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences we’ve had in our lifetimes. The last two years have been a time of non-stop growth, full of shocking revelations of sheer complexity that goes into creating a video game that you, yourself, would really enjoy playing.”
