The upcoming Soulslike game Mortal Shell will be firing up its beta this July, according to an IGN interview held yesterday as part of the IGN Summer of Gaming Expo.

Mortal Shell is a soulslike action-RPG that - as the description might suggest - draws heavily on the legendary Dark Souls as inspiration. Mortal Shell is apparently a soulslike made by people who love soulslikes (in this case, those people are the folks at Cold Symmetry).

The premise of the game is that players will go up against a range of menacing enemies, and upon their victory, will be able to occupy the “Mortal Shells” of their vanquished foes. The Shells provide different skills and weapon upgrades, allowing you to tailor your character to your favored playstyle.

The game’s beta will be available from July 3rd, and its gameplay should span up to two hours. You’ll be venturing through the Crypt of Martyrs - a frozen shrine of sorts - where you’ll battle it out against the monstrous Enslaved Grisha.

You’ll need a code to access the beta, so keep an eye on the Mortal Shell Discord, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook throughout the week following July 3rd to get yours.

Mortal Shell is due for a Q3 release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
