With the Mortal Kombat 11 release date looming, details about NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming fighter continue to surface. Earlier this week, one of these new details came as confirmation that Jax will be returning for the entry, and a recent reveal gives a closer look at the firepower he will be bringing with him to the fight.
As shared by NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon, the Mortal Kombat 11 rendition of Jax appears to pack quite a punch, particularly when executing his absolutely vicious Fatal Blow attack. When used, the fighter proceeds to repeatedly pummel his opponent in the face and stomach, and then he delivers the most brutal of ear boxings. To close things out, Jax administers a point blank gunshot aimed directly at the unlucky foe’s head.
For fans of the Mortal Kombat series’ over the top violence, Jax’s Fatal Blow is certain to be an exciting prospect. Indeed, all Mortal Kombat 11 characters will have their own special Fatal Blow, and, if they can each reach the level of savagery seen here, the new entry may be one of the most gruesome yet.
For the uninitiated, Fatal Blows are, essentially, Mortal Kombat 11’s take on the X-Ray Moves introduced in the series’ 2011 release. However, they do differ in the way they are executed, with Fatal Blows becoming available to a fighter when their health dips below 30%. At that point, a player simply needs to press two shoulder buttons simultaneously to deliver the devastating attack.
While these powerful moves will certainly be key in closing rounds at low health, players will not be able to rely on them exclusively. That is because a fighter can only use their Fatal Blow once per match, not every time they are in critical condition. Furthermore, missing a Fatal Blow attack will put the ability on cooldown, preventing a player from being able to try it again immediately after a botched attempt.
Now that the Mortal Kombat 11 beta is in full swing, fans are starting to get their hands on the fighters and their various Fatal Blows. While it remains to be seen which combatant has the most deadly one, Jax’s certainly does leave an impression.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23, 2019, on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
