4/29 Update: This Mortal Kombat 11 bug has reportedly been fixed. Original story follows.
While the Mortal Kombat 11 reviews have been generally positive, with many praising the title for its exceptional combat, there have certainly been a number of notable issues with NetherRealm Studios’ new fighting game. Indeed, some fans have expressed frustration with things like the Mortal Kombat 11 Towers of Time and the state of the game’s microtransactions, but a newly discovered bug may be the game’s biggest flaw yet.
Specifically, some players are reportedly encountering a bug that prevents them from earning Mortal Kombat 11 rewards or completing its Towers of Time. According to these players, an error message is displayed indicating that there is an issue contacting the Mortal Kombat 11 server, but when they attempt to finish a Tower they don’t receive rewards.
Apparently, this bug centers around Kenshi’s Blindfold, a Mortal Kombat 11 Krypt item that can be used to discover hidden items. The Blindfold consumes Soul Fragments while it is activated, and the reports indicate that if a player reaches zero Souls while using the Blindfold the issue can occur.
At the time of writing, the reports of this bug are isolated to a small group of players, though there is an indication that it can occur while playing Mortal Kombat 11 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and reinstalling the game does not appear to fix it. Furthermore, some players suggest that they have hit zero Souls while using the Blindfold and had no problems, aside from the item being removed from their inventories.
As such, fully depleting Souls while wearing the Mortal Kombat 11 Kenshi’s Blindfold does not appear to guarantee that progression will fully halt for every player. However, fans that are attempting to obtain Mortal Kombat 11 skins, and other cosmetics, should certainly monitor their Soul usage carefully until this issue has been fixed.
When exactly that fix will occur is currently unknown, as NetherRealm Studios has not officially addressed it at this time. One player reportedly affected by the bug suggests that they have attempted to contact Warner Bros. about it several times to no response. That said, considering how problematic this bug can prove for some players, the developers are certain to squash it as soon as possible.
Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
