Mortal Kombat 11 is going to expand in a big way with its upcoming Aftermath expansion on May 26, bringing with it plenty of new content for fans of the ultra-violent fighting game franchise. This new content will include the return of the Friendships feature, which are happy, non-violent alternatives to Mortal Kombat 11’s brutal Fatalities. While Friendships aren’t as violent as Fatalities, they are just as creative, with one being used by game director Ed Boon to troll fans.

Since before Mortal Kombat 11 was launched, fans have been in an uproar about the game’s lack of Mileena. The decision to basically give Mileena’s move-set to Kitana as one of her variants only upset fans further, and Ed Boon has used his Twitter to troll fans angry about Mileena’s absence. Now the fan demand for Mileena appears to be referenced in Kitana’s Mortal Kombat 11 Friendship.

When players perform Kitana’s Friendship in Mortal Kombat 11, she is joined by none other than Mileena herself. The sisters play a game of patty-cake together and embrace underneath a big “FRIENDSHIP” sign made out of balloons as confetti rains from the sky. Boon shared a clip of Kitana’s Friendship in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath and said, “Um…. Mileena Konfirmed?”

While Kitana’s Friendship in Mortal Kombat 11 has gotten quite a bit of buzz, NetherRealm has revealed many of the other Friendships that are coming as part of the big Aftermath update on May 26. As revealed by the Mortal Kombat 11 Friendships trailer, players will be getting access to a slew of very unique and amusing Friendships for every character on the MK11 roster.

Friendships will be added to Mortal Kombat 11 for everyone to try as a free update on May 26, along with Stage Fatalities. However, some of the content coming as part of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will require players to actually purchase the expansion itself. This includes the three DLC characters (Fujin, Sheeva, and RoboCop), as well as the new story content that takes place right after the events of the base game.

Regardless, the Mortal Kombat 11 May 26 update is bringing a ton of new content for fans of the game to try. It will definitely be interesting to see all the other Friendships that are added in the update to see how many have fun references like this one.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
