Update 4/22/2019: Frost has been confirmed for Mortal Kombat 11 as the game’s sole unlockable character. And now that Frost has been announced for the game, we know definitively all 25 fighters that will be in the game at launch.

One of the biggest surprises at The Game Awards 2018 was when NetherRealm Studios head Ed Boon appeared on stage, supposedly to reveal the nominees for Best Sports/Racing Game of the Year, only to announce Mortal Kombat 11 instead. Mortal Kombat 11 was announced with a bloody trailer that revealed three returning characters and one new character that will appear in the upcoming fighting game.

The Game Awards 2018 trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 also revealed when fans could expect more characters to be announced for the game. On January 17, 2019, NetherRealm hosted a Community Reveal Event that officially confirmed the first eight fighters for Mortal Kombat 11’s roster. Since then, NetherRealm has continued to reveal new characters for the game, including those on the base roster and those that will be added later as DLC characters.

Here are all the characters revealed for Mortal Kombat 11 so far. As more characters are announced in the weeks and months leading up to the game’s April 23, 2019 release, we will update this article as needed.

1. Baraka

In one of the first gameplay demonstrations of Mortal Kombat 11, we saw the brutal Baraka in action. In Mortal Kombat 11, Baraka has one of the franchise’s goriest Fatalities to date, which sees him feasting on the brains of his opponents - after he rips their face and skull off first, of course.

2. Cassie Cage

Cassie Cage is the deadly daughter of movie star Johnny Cage and Mortal Kombat mainstay Sonya Blade. Known for blowing bubblegum, taking selfies, and even dabbing after victories, Cassie may have inherited her dad’s snarky attitude, but she also inherited her mother’s unrelenting toughness.

3. Cetrion (NEW)

One of the new characters making her Mortal Kombat debut in Mortal Kombat 11, Cetrion has ties to other characters in the game. Notably, she is Shinnok’s sister, and she is also the daughter of Kronika, the Keeper of Time. We know that Kronika will be playing a key role in the Mortal Kombat 11 story, and so it will be interesting to see what role Cetrion will play come launch.

4. D’Vorah

D’Vorah first appeared in Mortal Kombat X, and her Bug Out Fatality immediately made her one of the more popular newcomers on the roster. For her sophomore effort, D’Vorah is returning with more disgusting bug-related attacks and could very well cement herself as a Mortal Kombat favorite.

5. Erron Black

Another character who first debuted in Mortal Kombat X, Erron Black will be returning for Mortal Kombat 11. Voiced by Troy Baker and reminiscent of famous fictional gunslingers like The Dark Tower’s Roland, Erron Black’s Wild West-style is sure to help him stand out from the rest of the MK11 roster.

6. Frost (Unlockable)

Frost has been confirmed for Mortal Kombat 11 in an impressive new gameplay trailer, and she will be the game’s sole unlockable character. To unlock Frost in Mortal Kombat 11, players need to complete chapter 4 or purchase her with real money.

7. Geras (NEW)

The first new character revealed for Mortal Kombat 11, Geras is an imposing figure with a brutal, brawling style of fighting. While Geras is plenty capable with his fists, though, he also possesses supernatural attacks that give him an edge in battles.

8. Jacqui Briggs

Not only did Mortal Kombat X reveal the child of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, but it also introduced the world to the daughter of Mortal Kombat’s brutal brawler, Jax Briggs. Jacqui Briggs was criticized in Mortal Kombat X for being too generic and not standing out when compared to other fighters on the roster, but Mortal Kombat 11 provides her an opportunity to become a much more notable part of the roster.

9. Jade

Jade has come a long way since being a mere palette swap for Kitana, but even so, the character was left out of the Mortal Kombat X roster. Luckily for fans of Jade, she will be returning in Mortal Kombat 11 as a playable fighter, and will also have a role in the game’s story mode.

10. Jax

Father of Jacqui and Mortal Kombat mainstay since the second game in the series, Jax is an imposing figure who can hit ridiculously hard thanks to his huge metal arms. In Mortal Kombat 11, both classic and modern Jax will be featured in the game, which should be an interesting dynamic to say the least.

11. Johnny Cage

Mortal Kombat 11 isn’t even out yet, but Johnny Cage may already have the fan-favorite Fatality in the game. Johnny Cage’s Fatality in Mortal Kombat 11 plays on his life as an action movie star, with the character interrupted by a movie director as he attempts to uppercut his opponent’s head off.

12. Kabal

Kabal returned to the Mortal Kombat franchise in the Mortal Kombat reboot, but he only made a cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat X. Luckily for Kabal fans, it’s been confirmed that he will be returning in Mortal Kombat 11.

13. Kano

The cybernetically-enhanced Kano has been in the Mortal Kombat franchise since the very first game, and he will be returning in Mortal Kombat 11. Now possessing more than a passing resemblance to professional wrestler Austin Aries, Kano seems as though he will be as deadly as he’s ever been.

14. Kitana

Kitana has persisted as one of Mortal Kombat 11’s most popular and recognizable characters since her debut in Mortal Kombat 2. Kitana will be returning in Mortal Kombat 11, and it will be exciting to see what’s next from her in the new game.

15. The Kollector (NEW)

The Kollector is an intriguing character who will be making his debut in Mortal Kombat 11. Possessing four (well, actually six counting the two arms hidden in his backpack) arms that he can use to literally tear his opponents apart, the Kollector is already standing out as one of the creepier fighters on the MK11 roster.

16. Kotal Kahn

Rival to Jacqui Briggs, the Aztec warrior Kotal Kahn is returning for Mortal Kombat 11. Kotal Kahn has yet to really make his mark in the Mortal Kombat universe, but it will still be interesting to see the next chapter in his rivalry with Jacqui Briggs.

17. Kung Lao

Kung Lao was murdered during the events of Mortal Kombat X by Shao Kahn, but the character will return in Mortal Kombat 11 as his past self. This means that Mortal Kombat 11 fans will be able to use Kung Lao’s signature razor-brimmed hat to their heart’s content.

18. Liu Kang

Considered to be the main character of the Mortal Kombat franchise by series creator Ed Boon, Liu Kang is a must for any Mortal Kombat game. In Mortal Kombat 11, the past version of Liu Kang from the original games will be appearing to go toe-to-toe with the franchise’s more modern fighters, and he will be joined by his friend Kung Lao on the journey.

19. Noob Saibot

Noob Saibot wasn’t featured in Mortal Kombat X, much to the disappointment of his fans. However, Noob Saibot is returning in Mortal Kombat 11, with some new tricks up his sleeve to boot.

20. Raiden

A series mainstay, it’s no surprise that Raiden is back in Mortal Kombat 11. Raiden will play a key role in Mortal Kombat 11, as his defeat of Shinnok has “upset the balance of history,” prompting intervention from Kronika, The Keeper of Time.

21. Scorpion

Arguably the most recognizable Mortal Kombat character in series history, Scorpion has always been a lock for the Mortal Kombat 11 roster. In the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal trailer, we see Scorpion in different outfits, including one costume that appears to be a throwback to his appearance from earlier games.

22. Shang Tsung (DLC)

Shang Tsung is the first Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character revealed so far, not counting the pre-order bonus Shao Kahn. Shang Tsung served as the antagonist of the original Mortal Kombat, but later became a playable fighter in other games in the series. In Mortal Kombat 11, Shang Tsung will be voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who played him in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film adaptation. Shang Tsung will not be available at launch, but will be added to Mortal Kombat 11 at an undetermined later date.

23. Shao Kahn (Pre-Order Bonus DLC)

The Mortal Kombat 11 reveal trailer also confirmed that at least one character will be locked behind a pre-order bonus. Shao Kahn is making his return in Mortal Kombat 11 for those that pre-order, and pre-orders will also grant players access to the beta as well.

24. Skarlet

Skarlet started life as a rumored “glitched” version of Kitana in Mortal Kombat 2, and while that was proven false, she eventually materialized as a DLC fighter for the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot. Skarlet will be returning to the franchise in Mortal Kombat 11, bringing with her a fighting style based almost entirely on blood.

25. Sonya Blade

Sonya Blade is a Mortal Kombat franchise mainstay, and so her return in Mortal Kombat 11 is not all that surprising. However, what did surprise fans was the announcement that WWE superstar and former UFC fighter Ronda Rousey would be providing the voice work for the fan-favorite character this time around.

26. Sub-Zero

While Scorpion may be the most recognizable Mortal Kombat character, Sub-Zero is plenty popular as well. Debuting in Mortal Kombat, Sub-Zero has been featured in almost every other Mortal Kombat game since, and even made an appearance in Injustice 2 as a DLC fighter. Sub-Zero’s ice-based attacks should be familiar to fans of the franchise, but he should have some new tricks up his sleeve in Mortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches April 23 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
