Yakuza fans had better get ready. There are going to be some big announcements coming to celebrate Yakuza’s 15th birthday.

According to Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Twitter account, the studio will host a livestream event on December 8th to discuss the future of the franchise. In attendance will be Takaya Kuroda and Kazuhiro Nakaya, voice actors for longtime series protagonist Kiryu Kasama and newcomer Ichiban Kasuga.

Although Nakaya also voiced Akira Nishikiyama in Yakuza, Yakuza 0, and Yakuza Kiwami, so he’s not a total newcomer to the series.

The livestream will be broadcast on YouTube at 8 PM JST (that’s 6 AM EST). You can check out the livestream using this link here.

We don’t even have a hint of what Ryu Ga Gotoku will discuss, but if we had to guess, we’d say there’s a good chance that we’ll get some Yakuza: Like a Dragon DLC or even a sequel. Like a Dragon has been a surprising success with almost half a million copies sold in Japan and Asia alone since March. Those numbers are only expected to grow with the worldwide release on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS4, and PC via Steam since then.

There’s also been discussion at Sega about bringing more remasters and remakes to different platforms. Those discussions came about as a result of Persona 4 Golden’s success on Steam, but there’s no reason Yakuza can’t join in on the fun. Yakuza 0 has been a huge success on Steam with over 500 million copies sold according to Steamspy, so getting Yakuza 3 through 6 over to Steam could be a lucrative endeavor.

There’s also the unlikely possibility that Yakuza director Daisuke Sato will get his wish and announce a new Sonic game under his direction. Or we could get some news on that Yakuza live-action film adaptation that has been in the works for the last little bit. There might also be a resolution to the Xbox Series X delay in Japan that had us thinking that Sega and Microsoft had a falling out.

Stay tuned on December 8th for updates.
