In Monster Hunter World, you commit every crime imaginable to the local wildlife. Driving a species to extinction? Check. Harvesting their organs and making weapons and armor to kill more of their kind with it? Check. Using biological weapons against them? You bet. What is it all for, you ask? Why must you vandalize nature’s creations with such gusto? For the resources, of course. Monster Hunter World, like all other Monster Hunter games before it, is about establishing civilization in a primordial world. As always, mankind can’t progress into the later stages of society without being destructive to other species. Don’t fret, all this hard work is rewarded with Commendation tokens and those Commendations can help you become an even better hunter.

However, going ham on spending these Commendations is a bad idea. Because, like other resources in Monster Hunter World, Commendations require your sanity before you can swim in their abundance. Thankfully, the first seven Commendations are guaranteed and you can find them by finishing these quests. Do note that on top of the guaranteed Commendation reward, there’s also a 1 percent chance of another Commendation being rewarded, assuming you’re that lucky.

7 A Colossal Task - Level 6 Special Quest (Assigned)

Taking on Zorah Magdaros without a Dragonator is next to impossible, which is why this quest is being generous with the Commendation reward. In order to unlock this, you need to have a Hunter Rank (HR) of 10 or higher. The quest is also assigned and not optional.

The time limit is 50 minutes and you only get three faints. On top of that, failing to lead Zorah Magdaros in the intended position or spot can count as a failure so take this quest seriously. Do note that you don’t actually get to kill or incapacitate Zorah Magdaros; at most, you only get to make it retreat with cannons.

6 Left Quite The Impression - Level 6 Special Quest (Optional, Replayable)

In case you wanted to experience the tussle with Zorah Magdaros again, you can have at it with this optional quest. It unlocks after the “A Colossal Task” quest. Other requirements include being HR 11 or higher. Players only need to guide Zorah Magdaros in this one.

Failure conditions are the same as “A Colossal Task,” but you can fool around here since it’s replayable. Also, take note that the availability or replayability of this quest is random and only has an active expiration time of two missions. Thankfully, you get a memo once it becomes available.

5 Gaze Upon The Dawn - Level 6 Special Quest (Event, Limited But Replayable)

This special quest is another chance to take on the troublesome Zorah Magdaros but this time, it’s an event version and is only available at certain time periods. It is replayable though if you wait for the event to come back.

You also need to be at HR 11 or higher in order to participate in this event quest. Other than that, it’s the same as the first Zorah Magdaros quest you get. The failure conditions are also the same.

4 Gone In A Flash - Level 5 Slaying Quest (Optional, Replayable)

You’ll need to slay a Kirin for this one but don’t be alarmed as it’s a weaker version of the Elder Dragon. As such Hunters only need to be HR 8 to unlock this optional quest in the Assignments tab. Initially, though, it’s given by the Impatient Biologist. However, players need to have finished these quests first:

Hunters get the standard 50-minute timer and three faints for this one. Apart from the guaranteed Commendation and 1 percent chance of getting another one, the quest also gives out a Thunderproof Mantle so you can prepare for future outings with a stronger Kirin.

3 Kirin The Myth - Level 5 Special Quest (Event, Limited But Replayable)

“Kirin The Myth” is part two of the first low-level Kirin quest prior. In it, players have to kill two of them, meaning they’ll finally be able to get some mileage out of the Thunderproof Mantle from the first Kirin.

The quest parameters are pretty much the same as the first optional low-level Kirin quest except it’s an event quest, making its replayability more limited. Hunters only need to be HR 8 or higher to get this event quest. Failure conditions are also the same. Meanwhile, the rewards aren’t that exciting apart from the guaranteed Commendation.

2 Redefining The “Power Couple” - Level 5 Hunting Quest (Optional, Replayable)

By power couple, they refer to Rathalos and Rathian— both of which are nasty fire-breathing flyers who are always bickering when not gnawing on hunters. As expected, facing two in one quest is troublesome; luckily this quest is optional and can be accessed in the Assignments tab.

Hunters get three faints and a 50-minute time limit. Meanwhile, they also need to have done the “A Fiery Throne Atop the Forest” and “Horned Tyrant Below the Sands,” quests given by The Armory so as to unlock this one. As for the rewards, it’s actually more generous than other optional quests since on top of the guaranteed Commendation and 1 percent for another one, you also get the Bandit Mantle which is great for farming rare items.

1 The Poison Posse - Level 5 Special Quest (Event, Limited But Replayable)

Much like the upgraded Kirin quest, this one is an upgraded version of the Rathalos + Rathian combo quest. This time around, a Pukei-Pukei gets thrown into the mix, making the fight a bit more difficult for newbie hunters. However, they tend to have a triple-threat match anyway so it’s easy to sneak in some hits.

The quest conditions and rules are the same except it’s an event quest. The rewards are also not exciting but you only came here for the Commendations anyway and that’s a guaranteed one.
